The Sydney Opera House Celebrates a Birthday

The Sydney Opera House After 15 years of construction, the Sydney Opera House designed by Danish architect J�rn Utzon opened on October 20 in 1973. While it was being built, the startling, shell-shaped structure stirred controversy and political intrigue. More recently, renovations have continued to inspire heated deebate.

Utzon was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2003.
