Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima is best known for her collaborative projects with architect Ryue Nishizawa. Their firm, Sejima + Nishizawa and Associates (SANAA), is praised for designing powerful, minimalist buildings using common, everyday materials. Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa share the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize. Sejima and Nishizawa also maintain separate practices, which usually focus on smaller commissions.

  • 1998: The Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan, Tokyo, Japan

  • 2002: Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture, American Academy of Arts and Letters New York, New York
  • 2002: Architecture Award of Salzburg, Austria
  • 2006: The Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan, Tokyo, Japan
  • 2010: Pritzker Architecture Prize. Kazuyo Sejima is the second woman to receive a Pritzker Prize. (Zaha Hadid of Iraq won the prize in 2004.)
